At this time of the year, we must not forget those less fortunate than ourselves so again this year, instead of sending Christmas cards/gifts, Oppermann Associates have made a donation to the Belvedere College Annual Sleep-Out for the Homeless and the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
Belvedere College Annual Sleep-out
This year, the Belvedere College “Annual Sleep-Out” will take place on 22nd to the 24th of December in two locations; outside the Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin 2 and at the GPO, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1.
As Christmas approaches, for most of us happiness is the dominant mood. However, for many on our streets, Christmas is just another cold day to endure. As more and more cuts are implemented those who have been invisible even in the boom years remain so. Students of the Sleep Out will experience only a fraction of the suffering of Dublin’s homeless, but with the help of the public they will be able to raise enough money so that charities can supply the basic Human Rights to these people that they have been denied.
First established in 1983, the Sleep Out comprises of a joint group of past & present pupils sleeping out on the streets of Dublin to raise funds and create awareness for a number of charities including the Peter McVerry Trust and Focus Ireland.
Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers.
Their vision is “an Ireland where no one goes through dementia alone and where policies and services respond appropriately to the person with dementia and their carers, at the times they need support”.
A national non-profit organisation, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is person centred, rights-based and grassroots led with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core.
We have chosen to do this, acknowledging that we have experienced a good year in so many ways and hope that our donation will enable other people to be in a similar position in the near future. Christmas is a time that they, and other charities need as many donations as possible.
We would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
